Transform Project

Transformation:
Started working on my transformation project, and right now I'm waiting for my clock accessories to come in so I can finish the art piece up! It will go into my art series as "Nothing Gold Can Stay#3, but... I don't really know what to have the subtitle as yet? So far the clock made out of playing cards reminds me of Alice In Wonderland but I'm really trying to think outside of the box on this one haha... If not then this artwork will be called Nothing Gold Can Stay#3-Alice In Wonderland Has A New Clock.

Persevere

Persevere:
Had a friend from church (Lindsay) come up to me ASKING to draw her up a tattoo design for when she goes down to Colorado to get it done. So... of course I told her i would! She specifically told me that she was wanting a dandelion blowing in the wind while the seeds transform into birds in the distance. As well, she wanted the Greek word "Persevere" somewhere in the tattoo. Today I finally finished up her design and this is what it came to look like :D I can't wait to see what the tattoo will look like when she gets it done!...

"Conceptual Art"

"Conceptual Art Questions"

1). Without the viewer it couldn’t be conceptual art. Conceptual art means that the idea is more important than the artwork. The whole art piece is about what the viewers get out of it; the idea/meaning itself. Once the art is finished the artist has no control over the way a viewer perceives the work. Different people will understand the same thing in a different way.

2). Artists and viewers were so comfortable with the idea of “Modern Art” at the time, and so blinded by the true meaning of art itself (that no one may ever know) that seeing “The Fountain” by Marcel Duchamp the entire public found it to be inappropriate. But this “Readymade” artwork brought to the viewers a different perception, meaning, participation with art, and what is art?

3). An artist does not need to create a piece himself to have it be considered art; the specific features lies not in the work itself, but in the idea behind it. Readymade becomes the focus of a meditation on the relation between external things and our perception of them. Maybe art doesn’t need a definition; perhaps it just needs an opinion.

4). Artists/viewers were so caught up in the “Traditional form” (the style, and forms) that conceptual art became a violent reaction against such Modernist notions of progress in the arts at that point in time. Language played a role; modernist (traditional art) became a refined and hermetic discourse while conceptual art opened up into philosophy, linguistics, popular culture, etc.

5). “Conceptual art was, and is, a truly international phenomenon” (Page 6). I find this quote interesting because it says it all for conceptual art. This type of artwork really has no boundaries; where as most of other artwork has boundaries, specific styles, and certain forms. But conceptual art can be whatever the artist wants to portray, and what expressions and meanings the viewers gets out of the piece. This quote relates back to the question, “What is art?” I believe there will never ever be a true and exact definition of art, because art has no limits; no boundaries.

Nothing Gold Can Stay #1 (Finished Piece)

Nothing Gold Can Stay #1

This non-representational/organic sculpture goes out to all those who have lost family members, frienships, dreams, goals, relationships... That nothing in this world last forever; that's why my yellow/orange skinned structure looks like it's been detereating. I used bright colors to get the feeling that life is so precious. The logs are to show that nature plays a role with life and death. The twenty green swirls spread out around the piece represents how many years I've lived so far in this world. The reason i have holes in my sculpture is to show that life is fleeding; even when we think we have comple control over it. My armature consists of gold wires that are wrapped around eachother with willow branches connect by silver wiring. This piece was done in rememberance of one of my good friends who committed suicide; Nicholas Bacon.

Nothing Gold Can Stay #2 (The Golden Wave)

Nothing Gold Can Stay #2 (The Golden Wave)

This painting I did is a non-representational/organic shape that became part of my series. It's acrylic paints on bristel paper. This 6x9 painting conveys the meaning i'm trying to bring out to all my viewers by my inspiration of Robert Frost Poem Nothing Gold Can Stay (How I got the idea for my art series). All my viewers have asked me to put Robert Frost Poem as a post on my blog so I will be putting it up soon! :)

Ellen Scott Art Show

Ellen Scott-
The video she showed right off the bat of her art show really got me contemplating. Not knowing what HER meaning was for the viewers to get out of her piece, this is what i came up with. The video brought a sense of mystery in the play. Each person that would slowly walk by the video camera I was trying to put myself in their shoes, their lives. There was a feeling of being a part of something big, but still feeling a sense of loneliness. The music in the background fit perfectly to my liking, its steady heart beat kept the slow motion of what was being shown. Same with the plexi glass artwork she showed with all of them only showing the backs of people. There's a mystery and anticipation of wanting to see the front of everyone. Being an artist doing a series of artwork for my title, it was amazing to see how most of her artwork was incorporated strongly into one title, one meaning. That's exactly what i'm going for with Nothing Gold Can Stay, and seeing artwork from Ellen Scott it mentally prepared me for my upcoming pieces with my artwork.

Artist #1-Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali-Born in 1904, Died on January 1989.

Salvador Dali was/is one of the most well known artist of not only his time, but our time. Dali brought the "Art World" an extreme new taste with his thoughts and imagination. Everything that he put on canvas brought unexplained emotions, thoughts, etc. He worked in more than one media; oils, watercolors, drawings, graphics, sculptures, films, photographs, performance pieces, jewels, and objects of all descriptions. Dali was not really limited to a particular style or media (early impressionist paintings through his transitional surrealist works). His full name was 'Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dali y Domenecin.' Born in Spain, and later moved to the United States. Most artists/people know Dali as a high painter and surrealist artist. Some funny/interesting facts that caught my eye; whenever Dali signed autographs for his fans he would keep their pens. Also, Salvador has more than 1500 paintings to his credit and illustrations, lithographs and designs!...

Famous Work of Salvador Dali-

1). "Persistence of Memeory"
2). "Dream Caused By The Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening"
3). "The Royal Heart"
4). "Swans Reflecting Elephants"
